In the morning, you come straight to our rental place to receive your bikes and your road-books as well as briefing for the tour.
Leave Blois and ride amongst fields and vineyards towards Chambord, the largest and by far most impressive Château in the Loire Valley. After visiting Chambord, you pedal back to Blois through the forest and across a few quiet villages.
A short ride on a path which follows from afar the course of the Loire river, and soon you find yourself in Chaumont-sur-Loire. The Château dominates the peaceful course of the river from a relatively high headland, and offers a beautiful view on the Valley. Not to be missed: the International Garden Festival, a true source of inspiration and magic! You will end your ride in Amboise. Discover the charming market town with its impressive castle overlooking the Loire River. Leonardo da Vinci once lived here and you will have the opportunity to visit his former manor house, Le CLos Lucé.
You ride through the forest of Amboise, along a pretty bike itinerary which will take you to chateau de Chenonceau: a wall of elegance built over the Cher River, it is one of the highlights of French Renaissance architecture, one of the most popular chateaux in France. You pedal back to Amboise through a quiet rural landscape of woods and vineyards.
A beautiful ride on the bucolic Loire à Vélo bike path will take you to Tours. On the way you will cross the vineyard of Montlouis. Make a stop to taste the wine in a cellar or reach the church to simply admire the outstanding view onto the Loire Valley. Then follow the bank of the river down to Tours and take some time to wander in the old town center, filled with half-timbered houses, public gardens, and cafés.
Cycling on the “Loire à Vélo” itinerary, along the Cher River, you soon reach Château de Villandry which offers the best example in France of formal Renaissance gardens. You continue pedaling through the country towards Azay-le Rideau, a quaint little town which delicate Renaissance castle seems to float in the Indre River.
Today you cycle towards Langeais and its 15th Century fortress, and later you reach Château d’Ussé, the enchanting castle of Sleeping Beauty. You proceed through woods and vineyards of the Chinon area – wine tasting is recommended en route! – and you arrive in the medieval town of Chinon.
Across the peaceful countryside where famous medieval French author François Rabelais spent his youth, you reach the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, one of the biggest abbeys of western Christendom. Discover the exceptional sites of Candes-Saint-Martin and Montsoreau, two of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Ride across the Saumur-Champigny vineyards where wine tasting is recommended! Discover Saumur and its Château overlooking the Loire River.
You leave the bikes at our bike rental place in Saumur and you walk less than 1 minute to the train station.
